Uganda is the ultimate birding destination with over 1000 species, both endemic and Albertine rift endemics. Uganda with its equatorial type of climate is known to be one of the richest Bird Destination in Africa it has an amazing diversity of habitants from the water bodies to the mountains, the forests to the semi desert in the north eastern region.

With over 1000 bird species, Uganda has almost half of the bird species already recorded on the African Continent. From the source of the Nile on Lake Victoria to the snow capped Rwenzori Range, the mountain forests of the Virunga volcanoes to the desert plains of Karamoja, bird watching is an exciting experience for the traveler.
Uganda's 10 most commonly sought after birds include: the Shoe bill stork, African Green Broadbill, Green-breasted Pitta, Nahans Francolin, Brown Chested Plover, Karamoja Apalis, Black Bee Eater, Rwenzori Turaco, Red Fronted Antpecker, Purvell's Illadopsis.
Important bird areas in Uganda include; Kibale forest national park 325 species, Queen Elizabeth national park Over 606 bird species,Bwindi Impenetrable National park is one of the richest flora and fauna forests of East Africa it has over 357 bird species including 90% of the Albertine rift Endemics, Murchison Falls national park with forest birds in Kaniyo Padidi and Budongo forest, Kidepo Valley National Park 465 species 112 species of which were not recorded in any other park by 1972, Mabamba swamps, Lutembe beach, Lake Victoria swamps, Semuliki National Park, Rwenzori Mountains, Mabira forest, Lake Mburo
