Tips for Responsible Travel

  • Read about the communities to be visited if there is any literature about them, if there are no literatures written about them then make inquiries about them from your travel agent.
  • With the help of your travel agent try to understand the local community’s needs and it is always nice to bring a gift for your hosts.
  • Avoid instances of cultural shock and cultural arrogance, it is important to understand that the local people you visit have different time concepts and thought patterns from yours; this makes them different not inferior.
  • Respect local cultures; it will help you get a deeper experience and better understanding of the people you visit.
  • Asking questions about what is peculiar to you will help you to understand the local people better as well as help you in seeing a different way of life through the locals’ eyes.
  • We do encourage you to socialise with people, it is however important to ask for permission before taking photographs and a walk around.
  • Never buy products made from endangered species of either plants or animals so as to stop this kind of trade
  • Use public transport at least once during your visit.
