This 6-day hiking safari is one not to miss, it takes you to the undiscovered eastern Uganda to hike Mount Elgon and get a chance to overlook the Karamojong plains spectacular scenery. The Mountain has many attractions with a mild climate. Hikers do not require any technical skills to climb this volcanic mountain, whose trails include the Sipi, Sasa and Piswa trails which take you past many caves, waterfalls, hot springs, birds, rare tree species and all the way to the Wagagai peak.
Day 1: Transfer to Mount Elgon/ Mbale town
Day 2: Hiking at Sasa trial
Day 3: Sasa River camp to Mude Cave Camp
Day 4: Mude Cave camp to Wagagai Peak
Day 5: Descend Mude Camp back to Budadiri
Day 6: Mbale back to Kampala
Early in the morning, our driver guide will pick you from your hotel for the journey to eastern Uganda. En route, stopover at the Source of the Nile for a short boat ride to see where the world’s longest river starts. Have lunch later in Jinja town and proceed to mbale town.
Early in the morning after breakfast, just a drift away, reach Budadiri at the gate of the Mount Elgon National Park. Arrange your packaged food and camping gear, we start moving heading to the Sasa river camp site. The first morning’s climb is quite steep because it involves climbing the wall of death with recently installed sturdy staircases up to the cliff face. Above this, we will follow the straight path through rainforest and the bamboo zone. We arrive at Sasa River Camp for the dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, proceed through the forest to Mude Cave Campsite for dinner and overnight. This day’s hike has limited time, works with a tight budget and requires a fit person.
After breakfast you walk through the Jackson’s pool all the way up to the main peak, Wagagai. Reaching the summit in the morning is important. Enjoy the glorious cloud cover scenery. Return back to the Mude campsite for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast descend to Budadiri at the slopes of the mountain. Continue to Mbale town.
After breakfast, travel back to Kampala. Arrive in the afternoon, drop off at the airport or any place of your convenience. The tour will end when our driver returns you to your drop-off point.
